This page is composed of diary entries from Bella Elephant and her Mother.
With each entry both the feelings and perspectives of the child and adult are shared. These scenarios are inspired from memories of my childhood as well as my current experiences as an Aunt and Godmother.
Though the development of this brand and my own inner child work, my focus is on child communication. The goal of these diary entries is to provide a resource for more effective conversations and bridge the gap between the adult and child. If we can calmly speak to one another while opening our hearts with understanding and empathy, more powerful and fluid conversations are possible.
It is a really beautiful moment when this connection occurs and everyone is fully heard and understood.
In this post Bella speaks of her joyful visits to her Grandmother’s home. This inspiration is derived from my own relation with my Grandmother, Lucy. Like so many others in our family, my Grandmother was a staple part of my life and still is to this day. The consistencies of her home remain vivid in my memories. I am proud to be her namesake as Kristina Lucia while also being tagged with the nickname Scarlet O’Hara. Scarlet O’Hara is one of my Grandma’s favorite characters and my Uncle bestowed this nickname of Scarlet O’Hara on me for my first Christmas and my Grandma as Mamie. My Grandmother was all smiles that day as I believe she is now as I dedicate this post to her.
This week Bella and her Mom share their trip to the local playground with us. Bella finds joy in all the playground elements but it is the tunnels that capture her attention.
The inspiration of this entry is derived from a memory my Mom often shared with me. When I was a toddler, she told me that I would play endlessly in the tunnels at this one playground and she would wait to see where I would reappear. What I recall the most is the joy in my Mom’s face when she reminisced about this memory. This one is for you, Mom.
Do you want to know a secret? I am both fascinated and frustrated by stairs. I have been walking independently for months but the stairs are still an obstacle. For a while I was content crawling up the stairs but after a few times I wanted to be able to walk up and down them like Mommy and Daddy.
I just turned two almost a month ago! My birthday is February 15th – the day after Valentine’s Day. It was so much fun although I was overwhelmed at times. I enjoyed eating the birthday cake my Mommy baked for me but I got tired of opening so many presents. Family members kept pushing presents in front of me and snapping so many pictures.
My name is Bella and I am a two-year-old elephant. I decided to start creating these diary entries with the help of Miss Kristina to share my feelings and thoughts. I really enjoy being a toddler but some days are tough. I am learning to communicate with my words, develop my coordination and motor skills, and express my feelings. I have my good days as well as my bad days. I love receiving hugs, watching my Mommy cook dinner, and twirling in my dresses. I look forward to sharing more adventures with you.
